Fosar® PRM systems, provided through Stingray, comprise a permanently installed array of four-component (4C), passive fiber-optic sensors. Each Optical Sensing Unit (OSU) consists of one hydrophone and three orthogonally-mounted accelerometers connected by robust optical cable.

Reservoir Stingray - Listening with LightListening with Light®
Sensors are placed on the seabed during installation, ensuring optimum coupling whilst minimizing ambient noise and risk of mechanial damage.

With no subsea electrical power requirements, the seabed array is connected through a riser cable to a compact opto-electronic interrogation unit situated on the platform or tied back to a remote host facility up to 500 km away. The interrogator communicates with the sensors by pulsing laser light into the array and receiving and decoding the returning signals to provide full-wave seismic imaging data for detailed oil or gas reservoir characterization and reservoir model update.

Drawing on developments in the telecommunications industry over the past 30 years to ensure reliability and availability, the high number of sensors per fiber also delivers a small and lightweight system, requiring minimal connections.  This makes the system very flexible and installable in all water depths and production configurations, minimizing the impact of existing oilfield infrastructure, and enabling highly repeatable time-lapse or 4D seismic in and around obstructed zones.

Originating from a unique fiber sensing technology designed for underwater defense applications, TGS offers a range of Stingray PRM systems to address specific customer applications.
