The measure of an input device is the value determined by one or more physical input devices and by a measure mapping. Several measures can be determined simultaneously by a given physical device. A specific measure mapping is applied to each measure. A measure represents the state of an evaluation process, which is an independent process active each time the corresponding device operates interactively. Each state exactly corresponds to an input value.
When an evaluation process is created, the data in the input corresponding to the input device of the workstation state list is examined. We verify that the initial value conforms to the rules given in paragraph 5.3 concerning the input class. If it conforms, the initial value is used as the current state of the process. Otherwise, we use a value which depends on the input device. Next, a prompt is sent to indicate that the tool is ready to be used. The prompt technique used by the device is determined by its Prompt Echo Type which can be selected by calling the appropriate INITIALIZE function. Evaluation process creation is then complete.
When the evaluation process is running, if the echo is ON, an output tells the user the current evaluation process state.
