The designer of an application can insert data specific to the application into the open structure by means of the APPLICATION DATA function. This data can only be used by the application program and is not interpreted or modified by GPHIGS. When the traversal is being executed, application data is ignored. Application data is, in this sense, similar to comments in a high level programming language; it cannot be displayed, but it is accessible by structure editing.
