GPHIGS allows several X11 workstations to share the same X-Window by allowing a workstation to draw only in several image planes of the X-Window.
For instance, an application opens two workstations. The first one uses four back planes to draw a complex graphic and the second draws icons in the three front planes. This makes fast animation of icons possible on the second workstation without discarding the contents of the first.
The configuration file must contain the following directives:
%wk 1 workstation number 1
%wc LOW_FULL prevents color flashing
%wm 0F window mask set to four back planes
%wk 2 workstation number 2
%wg 1 window group of workstation number one:
GPHIGS will use the window associated with workstation number 1 for this
workstation .
%wm 70 window mask set to three front planes
