ReservoirViz 7.0 (December 2007)

ReservoirViz is a *new* extension that adds support for very large 3D structured meshes. It uses the same LDM (Large Data Management) engine that has made the VolumeViz extension so successful for very large volume data sets. Using a hierarchical multi-resolution data model, ReservoirViz allows interactive navigation and display of models containing millions of cells on standard 3D workstations. ReservoirViz is ideal for interactive visualization of oil & gas reservoir models -- even very large or complex models -- used in exploration and production workflows, including reservoir characterization and modeling, reservoir simulation, and reservoir engineering.

ReservoirViz can manage and visualize any mesh having a logical structured topology with per-cell data sets, which may or may not be time dependent. Such meshes are sometimes called "IJK meshes" because each cell of the mesh is associated with a unique index triplet (i,j,k). Thus any 3D rectangular grid mesh, rectilinear grid mesh, or Cartesian grid mesh can be visualized by ReservoirViz. The mesh structure must be composed of a list of layers of cells in each logical direction. In other words the mesh structure is a 3D matrix of cells. Each cell of the mesh is any type of hexahedron. For instance, a parallelepiped or a cube.

ReservoirViz provides support for import of Eclipse format files containing mesh geometry, static properties, and time-dependent properties. Input data files must first be converted to an LDM file format using a converter. The conversion can be done in batch mode before applying any visualization techniques.
