Support Vessels

TGS relies on modern seismic support vessels for crew changes, refueling, and logistics during extended offshore projects. Four purpose-built vessels - Thor Magni, Modi, Frigg, and Freyja - are chartered from PF Thor to meet TGS specifications. Additional support vessels are secured through long-term agreements with other trusted suppliers.

Digitalization and Digital Twins

TGS collects and feeds data from all its seismic vessels into a powerful contextualization engine powered by Cognite Data Fusion.

  • Digital Dashboards
  • Immersive Simulators

Digital Dashboards

digitization-and-digital-twins-fig2
The bridge simulator is linked to the seismic back-deck simulator, and instrument room simulator at a facility near Oslo, Norway. The center also includes an integrated support vessel bridge simulator for training in complex operations.

Digital Dashboards Harness Liberated Operational Data

By liberating the data we are able to unlock new insights to further improve fleet safety and efficiency. Digital dashboards have been developed to monitor and manage vessel speed, fuel and energy consumption, towing loads, data quality attributes and HSE risks. Technology durability and performance lessons are improving, along with survey performance. Vessel and equipment maintenance scheduling can now be done on demand based on factual indicators. Other areas benefiting from digitalization include proactive prevention of certain HSEQ events and the detailed reporting of CO2 emissions.

Immersive Simulators

digitization-and-digital-twins-fig1

Digital Twins with Immersive Simulators Reduce Risk

At our digital-twin onshore training facility, we have built full-scale immersive simulators for the Ramform back deck, control room, and bridge. A linked support-vessel bridge simulator is also available. In the simulator environment, crews practice complex operations and train for challenging weather and environmental conditions. They can also collaborate on emergency response scenarios, together with teams in Oslo and elsewhere.

The Ramform Story

The profile of the Ramform with its incomparably wide back deck is unmistakable. This is the ultimate platform for efficient and safe seismic operations in all conditions and environments.

The Ramform Signature

Ramform-Atlas-Streamers
Each new generation of the Ramform design has brought more power, capacity, and flexibility, breaking new records, and increasing safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Design, Performance and Technological Advancements

The delta-shaped Ramform hull was designed by Norwegian naval architect Roar Ramde, and the first seismic Ramform vessel was inspired by the Norwegian naval intelligence vessel Marjata. It's sinusoidal waterline allows stable motion behavior at the beam. The vast back deck is perfect for installing and towing a large quantity and variety of equipment and also offers generous interior and instrument room capacity.

TGS acquired the rights to the vessel design with an agreement to build at least six ships. The first, Ramform Explorer, was launched in 1995 and immediately smashed all 3D seismic performance and endurance records. Each new generation of the design, from Ramform Challenger, the V-class and S-class ships to the mightily impressive Titan-class, brought more power and capacity, breaking new records. They increased safety, reliability, and efficiency, towing denser spreads and implementing GeoStreamer technology to improve data quality.

The Power of Titan

PGS_RamformTitan_PGS02166_RGB_860x484px

Maximizing Seismic Efficiency, Safety, and Data Quality with GeoStreamer Technology

The Ramform Titan-class vessels were designed to fully utilize the potential of GeoStreamer technology. These ultra-high-capacity seismic vessels were built between 2013 and 2017. They are the most powerful design yet, enabling greater flexibility, and securing safer operations than any other 3D seismic vessels.

Ramform Titan, Ramform Atlas, Ramform Tethys, and Ramform Hyperion are 70 meters wide at the stern and equipped with 24 reels, each capable of holding over 10 km of streamlined seismic recording equipment with inbuilt GeoStreamer technology, and positioning units. They are designed for safe and efficient operations in even the harshest of environments.
