Angola
The Angolan continental margin hosts significant proven reserves as well as untapped potential. TGS seismic data and geoscience studies provide a solid foundation to build a regional understanding of the hydrocarbon potential, by unraveling and derisking both pre- and post-salt prospectivity.
Accelerate Your Exploration Timelines
Using the latest acquisition, processing and imaging technologies, new licensing activity and TGS data for Angola are fueling a resurgence in exploration interest as significant imaging uplifts and reliable attributes reveal untapped potential. Additional geoscience studies are available for companies licensing seismic datasets, to fast-track geological understanding and evaluate petroleum systems and plays ahead of bid applications.
TGS, in partnership with ANPG (Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis), has been acquiring and processing multi-client 3D and 2D seismic data in Angola for over 20 years, resulting in a library of over 69,200 sq. km of 3D data and over 50,000 line km of 2D data covering every exploration block offshore Angola.
License Round 2025 / 2026
Angola is fast becoming one of the hottest exploitation regions in West Africa. Building on recent exploration successes, government backing and detailed subsurface insights, many explorers are focused on offshore Angola's potential.
In Q4 2025, ANPG (Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis) will be launching a license round, opening several blocks for bids, including blocks 22, 25, 26, 38 and 39. Exploration potential is high, but detailed subsurface understanding is critical to optimize success in this complex environment.

Understanding Angola's Geology
The vast area offshore Angola contains multiple stages of the hydrocarbon exploration life-cycle from frontier basins to mature producing areas, each with strategies in place for exploration and development.
Gemini Source + GeoStreamer
The use of Gemini Source in conjunction with deep tow multisensor streamers has yielded significantly improved results in Anogla's geologically complex deepwater.
Twelve 10 km long streamers towed 150 m apart and a total of six Gemini sources were deployed.
Preliminary results demonstrate both good resolution for shallow imaging above the salt and the benefits of the low frequency rich data for elastic FWI based velocity model building of the complex salt and sub-salt geology.

Harnessing the TGS Acquisition Toolkit
The TGS Acquisition Toolkit delivers the precision, reliability, and accountability needed to tackle the most complex imaging challenges.
Leveraging advanced technologies like OBN, GeoStreamer X and Gemini source, along with tailored acquisition strategies, TGS has worked closely with partners offshore Angola to overcome imaging challenges and create new exploration opportunities in this notoriously complex subsurface geology.
Clarity Through Imaging Solutions
Exploration offshore Angola has recently shifted in exploration emphasis, with interest moving from postsalt sedimentary sequences to the presalt section.
