TGS’ data library has been instrumental in revealing the potential of offshore Brazil by providing the foundation for confident mapping and evaluation of pre-salt targets in the Campos and Santos basins.

Data-Driven Opportunities in the Brazil Pre-Salt Basins

Campos and Santos Basins, offshore southeast Brazil, are home to some of the most recognized reservoirs in the world.  The prolific “salt basins” have produced over ~80,000 MMboe of reserves from the post-salt and pre-salt over the past two decades and are not yet at peak production. Upcoming Permanent Production Sharing rounds that include large under-explored blocks nearby producing fields are gaining momentum with energy companies looking to position themselves favorably in the neighborhood of renowned fields such as Tupi, Buzios, Pau de Acucar, and the upcoming high-impact well at Agua Marinha.

High-quality seismic data is the pathfinder for exploration and production companies to develop the best resources in the pre-salt play. Explore our data library to see how advanced imaging continues to drive success across the Campos and Santos Basins for upcoming lease rounds and beyond.

Brazil 2025 Third Cycle Open Acreage Licensing Round

Brazil’s third cycle of the Open Acreage Permanent Offer under the production sharing regime is expected to launch in the second half of 2025, offering 13 high-potential pre-salt blocks in the Campos and Santos basins. This continuous licensing model gives companies greater flexibility to pursue new prospects in Brazil’s oil and gas sector. Visit the OPP page to learn more about the cycle timeline, available blocks, and how TGS seismic data can support your exploration strategy.

Imaging

To overcome the geological challenges and support exploration across the Campos and Santos Basins, TGS has collected a comprehensive seismic data library which includes rejuvenated and re-imaged legacy 2D and 3D seismic along with the acquisition of modern long-offset data.

Modern reprocessing workflows including Full Waveform Inversion have been applied to the full 49,000 sq. km. of Santos Vision 3D data. The advanced processing and imaging techniques result in more reliable velocity models and subsurface images that reduce exploration risk and help identify prospects with higher confidence.

Geology

TGS’ extensive dataset over Campos deepwater reveals new geological insights, resolving complex structures and key petroleum system elements in pre-salt and post-salt plays.

Our basin study work confirms that pre-salt exploration in the Santos basin could yield further significant discoveries. Many oil companies also recognize this potential and need high-quality seismic data to mitigate exploration risk.
