Discover the energy potential of India’s East and West Coast. TGS is transforming offshore exploration with cutting-edge seismic reprocessing and advanced geological insights. With our proprietary 2Dcubed technology and Facies Map Browser, we are paving the way for smarter, data-driven energy discoveries in the region.

The Third Largest Energy Consumer

India is now the world's third-largest energy consumer and the fourth-largest importer of liquefied natural gas. The government has set a target to raise natural gas's share of the energy supply from 6.7% to 15% by 2030.

With significant estimated reserves of crude oil and natural gas and a stated strategy to increase domestic production, offshore India presents strong opportunities for E&P companies to invest, collaborate with the Indian government and contribute to the country's energy goals. TGS provides high-quality data and subsurface insight to support India's energy industry in achieving affordability, reliability and environmental sustainability.

Conforming 2D/3D Seismic
for Regional Screening

TGS offers seismic data coverage across prospective basins on both coasts, the Krishna-Godavari Basin, Cauvery Basin and West Bengal Fan on the East Coast, and mature and frontier areas on the West Coast. This data helps local and international companies develop structural and geological models during pre-study evaluation, increasing confidence in license-round decisions and supporting further exploration

The 2Dcubed technique  technique uses a unique algorithm to generate a 3D seismic migration volume from existing 2D and 3D seismic lines. The result is a revitalized, conformable dataset useful for regional interpretation and optimizing subsequent survey designs.

2Dcubed Data on India’s East and West Coast

The TGS East Coast India 2Dcubed  project covers more than 250,000 line kilometers of existing 2D data across more than half a million square kilometers. Spanning the Krishna-Godavari Basin, Cauvery Basin and West Bengal Fan, it creates a single, conformable, easily accessible dataset designed to support exploration and increase confidence in license-round decision-making. The Andaman 2Dcubed project is ongoing and expected to be completed by August 2026.

The West Coast India project complements the East Coast effort, covering approximately 400,000 line kilometers of 2D seismic data across more than three-quarters of a million square kilometers.

Best in Class Subsurface Data Interpretation

Beyond seismic coverage, TGS offers well-based stratigraphic interpretation and sequence-constrained facies maps through the East Coast and West Coast India Facies Map Browser. Well data has been analyzed within a sequence stratigraphic framework harmonized across basins, with lithological and log properties queryable at various levels and displayed in table or map format.

Detailed Gross Depositional Environment maps are developed using all available data, including 2Dcubed seismic interpretation, well analysis and regional synthesis. The FMB desktop browser lets users query and visualize interpreted wells and facies maps with quick access to source data and a regional stratigraphic framework. The TGS database and FMB workflows will enable fast-track understanding of regional geology and play fairways.

Krishna-Godavari Basin:
Mega 3D Reprocessing Project

Spanning 21,000 square kilometers of legacy 3D surveys, the KG Basin Mega 3D project uses broadband seismic reprocessing, including Pre-Stack Time Migration, Pre-Stack Depth Migration and Full Elastic Waveform Inversion. These methods deliver contiguous, high-resolution imaging for detailed exploration of Tertiary stratigraphic plays and deeper synrift prospects. Final advanced seismic products are expected in Q4 2026, with fast-track data available now.
