Abstract
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) requires lessees and operators to provide an assessment of all seafloor features, subsurface geology, man-made features, and conditions that may adversely affect the operational and/or environmental integrity of a proposed drilling operation. Oil and gas operators are responsible for identifying, analyzing and mitigating shallow hazards ahead of their drilling operations. Conventional seismic data might not have the required illumination, especially in the shallow water environment, requiring a separate high-resolution site survey dataset to perform this analysis. The guidelines from International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP) recommend using 3D site survey dataset with sufficient resolution of the seabed and shallow section to allow accurate analysis to perform these geohazard assessments.
