Distributed Acoustic Sensing

We offer Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP) processing solutions for 3D and 4D reservoir and carbon storage monitoring. These include presurvey modeling and acquisition design, 3D and 4D processing and imaging as well as advanced model building technologies such as DM FWI using DAS VSP data.

FWI Imaging for Accelerated
DAS VSP Insights

Our DAS VSP tailored full wavefield inversion (FWI) Imaging workflows achieve improved resolution and illumination by inverting and imaging the full wavefield data. Compared to conventional processing, FWI Imaging can reduce processing times from months to weeks.

Legacy VSP Data Reprocessing

TGS has successfully applied modern imaging workflows, including Elastic Dynamic Matching FWI (E-DMFWI), to legacy VSP data, achieving high-fidelity velocity models and final images with significantly improved illumination and resolution compared to legacy data. These enhancements facilitate more accurate fault interpretation and reservoir characterization in subsalt intervals, demonstrating that revitalizing legacy VSP is a robust approach for high-resolution imaging and optimized field development strategies.

DAS VSP in Complex Subsurface Settings

DAS VSP extends the reach of seismic imaging in complex geology by providing high-fidelity borehole measurements that complement conventional surface data. Its ability to record rich wavefield information, including converted waves and multiples, enables enhanced imaging beneath challenging overburdens where traditional approaches may leave uncertainty. The result is improved delineation of deeper structures, greater confidence in reservoir characterization and a more complete understanding of the subsurface.

DAS VSP Full Wavefield Imaging

Our advanced DAS VSP full wavefield imaging treats the free-surface bounce as a virtual source, thereby decreasing incident angles at depth and extending the range of illumination along the reflector for a fixed source-receiver offset.

DAS VSP Noise Attenuation

Our denoise strategy will leverage our powerful onshore and offshore surface seismic toolkit. These AVO-compliant algorithms tend to rely on pattern recognition for noise discrimination rather than on a deterministic noise description. They are thus readily suited to suppressing the noise trains typically observed on DAS VSP data.
