Tailored Source Solutions
Flexible Source Solutions for Targeted Survey Applications
TGS offers a suite of source technologies engineered for flexibility, efficiency, and high-resolution seismic imaging. From steerable arrays and wide-tow multi-source configurations to omnidirectional sources and dense acquisition setups, our solutions meet the specific demands of modern exploration and reservoir monitoring projects.
Each system is designed to deliver predictable, high-quality wavefields with minimal deviation and maximum control. Accurate positioning, real-time steering, and low acoustic output support both technical performance and environmental responsibility. These capabilities are especially valuable in 4D and CCS projects, where repeatability and long-term monitoring are critical.
How Our Source Systems Deliver
The source signal is just as critical to seismic quality as the receiver system. TGS source arrays are built for precision, adaptability, and minimal environmental impact—whether supporting conventional surveys, eSeismic acquisition, or time-lapse monitoring.
Our systems use stiff sub-array floats with dual RGPS towers to ensure accurate positioning and control. Lateral source location is maintained using a unique steering mechanism, and multi-source deployments remain stable, even at the widest configurations in the industry.
Each source element is independently triggered and recorded via near-field hydrophones, giving precise control over the emitted wavefield. This allows for extremely low acoustic levels in sensitive environments without compromising quality. Integrated source modeling with TGS’s Nucleus software provides real-time validation of every shot, enhancing confidence in data accuracy and imaging consistency.
Advantages of Tailored Source Solutions

Highly accurate steering of each source sub-array aids repeatability of 4D surveys for reservoir monitoring

Up to six sources can be deployed with the largest lateral separation in the industry (ca. 450 m for dedicated source vessels, 350 m for source + streamer vessels)

Enables highly efficient acquisition for high-resolution near-surface imaging

The eSeismic method (continuously emitted and recorded wavefields) uses individually triggered source elements with the lowest-possible source output levels

Real-time monitoring and modeling of emitted source wavefields enhances broadband seismic imaging and validates shot accuracy

Steerable Sources
Gemini Source

Gemini Source
Gemini is a next-generation, single-element source that enhances low-frequency content for Full Waveform Inversion while preserving the high-frequency detail needed for accurate imaging. Its omnidirectional 1-D signature improves consistency across all angles and azimuths, reducing variability and accelerating convergence in velocity modeling.
By extending the usable bandwidth and adding an octave of low frequencies, Gemini supports clearer, more interpretable final images. The result is improved AVO/AVA analysis, better geological insights, and greater confidence in reservoir characterization.
Multi-Source Solutions

Multi-Source Solutions
Wide-tow multi-source configurations improve near-offset coverage and enhance image quality in the shallow subsurface. These solutions are especially effective in shallow-water environments or when targeting near-surface anomalies, where uniform spatial sampling is key to resolution and accuracy.
By deploying up to six sources with wide lateral separation, TGS improves acquisition efficiency without compromising on data fidelity. These setups are also compatible with low-footprint eSeismic methods, supporting broadband imaging while reducing acoustic impact.
Steerable Sources

Steerable Sources
Steerable source arrays provide precise lateral control, critical for consistent source positioning in time-lapse (4D) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) surveys. Each sub-array can be individually steered, maintaining uniform geometry and reducing variation in wavefield emissions.
When paired with TGS’s broadband GeoStreamer acquisition, steerable sources help produce high-fidelity data across all depths. This accuracy supports repeatable reservoir monitoring and enhances imaging reliability in challenging operational conditions.
Dense Acquisition & Compact Arrays
Dense acquisition with compact source arrays enables higher spatial sampling, which translates to sharper seismic images and better resolution of complex geology. These setups are ideal for projects requiring enhanced detail in the near surface or in areas where full spatial coverage is critical.
Compact array configurations also contribute to lower operational noise and reduced environmental impact. Combined with advanced source modeling and control, they offer a balance of efficiency, clarity, and safety that supports both exploration and development objectives.
