OSLO, Norway (29 August 2023) - TGS, a global energy data and intelligence provider has announced an extensive regional seismic imaging project that builds upon existing Indonesian seismic coverage. The Kutei 2Dcubed survey in the Kutei basin will extend north from the East Java Sea 2Dcubed project area that concluded in late 2022.

The adjacent East Java Sea 2Dcubed project received widespread industry praise. It was designed to help drive interest and exploration across the South Makassar and Northeast Java regions. The Kutei project will continue to build upon this coverage, utilizing 2Dcubed technology to integrate all existing seismic data into a single, conformable exploration package. It will add a further 115,400 square kilometers of 2Dcubed data resulting in a single, expansive, homogenous dataset encompassing more than 380,000 square kilometers offshore Indonesia.

The innovative 2Dcubed technology from TGS generates a 3D seismic volume from a set of 2D lines. It uses an advanced structurally conformable interpolation algorithm to maximize the potential of existing 2D multi-vintage and 3D data. For the first time in Indonesia, this technology enables large databases of 2D to be matched and merged into a single tool to fast-track exploration. Where available, any legacy 3D seismic data will be post-stack merged into the 2Dcubed volume to allow for continuous regional coverage.

The Kutei 2Dcubed dataset joins a wealth of subsurface data and insight offered by TGS in the region. This includes the Facies Map Browser (FMB) product, which generates a stratigraphic model based on well and seismic data over the East Java Sea and Kutei basins.
