OSLO, Norway (16 June 2026) – TGS, a global provider of energy data and intelligence, announced today that it has been selected by the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMIMT) to provide subsurface data digitization and interpretation services for the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. TGS will digitize, compile, and quality-control the Bureau's large, multisource subsurface datasets in support of its geologic mapping, hydrogeologic framework development, applied research, and public service programs.
The engagement will deliver wireline geophysical log curves in non-proprietary, industry-standard formats, including LAS and depth-registered raster images such as TIFF and GeoTIFF. TGS will normalize scanned and digitized log data into consistent LAS formats, perform quality-control screening for completeness, unit consistency, and internal logic, and assemble well header information, location data, and supporting metadata - including coordinate reference systems - to ensure compatibility with the Bureau's data management practices.
The integration will be delivered in multiple phases. The initial phase introduces a direct data connector that enables users to download and manage TGS datasets within their projects. Future phases will expand capabilities to include well-by-well access to performance and core data, followed by scalable batch connections to advanced datasets such as velocity data and validated well headers.
Carl Neuhaus, Vice President of Well Data Products at TGS, said, "This award reflects the trust that leading research institutions place in TGS' well data expertise. We are proud to support the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in transforming its extensive subsurface records into high-quality, analysis-ready digital datasets that will serve geologic research and the public for years to come."
Sean Connell, Associate Director at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, said, “Preserving and modernizing our subsurface data is central to the Bureau's mission. Partnering with TGS allows us to transform valuable subsurface well records into reliable digital datasets that will strengthen our mapping, research, and service to the people of New Mexico."
