Cyprus' strategic location in the Eastern Mediterranean and recent natural gas discoveries make it a key destination for offshore hydrocarbon exploration. With its proximity to major energy markets and ongoing exploration in its exclusive economic zone, the country continues to attract investment from leading energy companies.

Why Cyprus?
Cyprus is a highly attractive destination for offshore hydrocarbon exploration due to its strategic location in the Eastern Mediterranean, where recent discoveries have confirmed significant natural gas reserves.
Situated near major energy markets in Europe and the Middle East, Cyprus provides an advantageous position for energy exports. The country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) has already yielded promising results, with major energy companies securing exploration licenses, and actively undertaking exploratory and discovery appraisal drilling.
Explore Our Data
Significant multi-client 2D and 3D seismic datasets are available offshore Cyprus, acquired in partnership with the Cypriot ministry. The 'Cyprus Vision' rejuvenation project provides approx. 20,000 sq. km of modern rejuvenated Kirchoff Pre-Stack Depth Migration (KPSDM) data. This fully reprocessed single volume, delivered on a common grid, covers offshore blocks 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
In April 2024, TGS commenced a PSDM reprocessing project of 9,230 line km of 2D data to add value to the existing 3D Cyprus Vision dataset. A high-quality broadband depth product has been created using imaging workflows that include reflection tomography and advanced depth migration algorithms.
- 6770 km Conventional MC2D, acquired in 2006, processed in 2011.
- 12200 km GeoStreamer Broadband MC2D, acquired in 2008, processed in 2009.
- A subset of the above two datasets (9 230 km) have been reprocessed using depth imaging workflows as an extension of the Cyprus Vision 3D project.
- Cyprus Vision: Seven 3D surveys, reprocessed and merged into a single 3D seismic depth volume totaling 19 126 sq.km.

Cyprus Potential
Multiple commercial gas discoveries have been made in Cyprus in recent years, including Calypso, Glaucus and Cronos. These have confirmed the presence of substantial natural gas reserves, demonstrating the region’s significant hydrocarbon potential. These fields are primarily associated with carbonate reservoirs, within the Miocene and Cretaceous. The presence of a well-established petroleum system, with effective source rocks, migration pathways, and high-quality reservoirs, enhances confidence in further exploration success.
Beyond these established discoveries, there is growing interest in deeper, presalt Miocene sandstone-hosted reservoirs, analogous to the Aphrodite field in the southeast of Cyprus, but which remain largely underexplored in Cyprus. These potential reservoirs, also located in the pre-salt section, could hold significant hydrocarbon accumulations similar to those found in Israel.
